Basement Revamp #2 - Organize!

To get a good idea of what we were dealing with....we realized that the kids rooms were bulging with toys and that we needed a better place to put the toys AND keep them organized.

Here is a before of the girls' room:

Doll stuff, junk, art supplies, ride on toys...you name it was piled into that room!!!

AND Nolan's room.....which previously had been a playroom....as you can tell!

We basically left his room half full of the "playroom" toys.  So it was just always a mess!  And totally disorganized!

First we emptied and organized our things in the basement ....well at least one side of the basement

....we brought in a couple of cube organizers with totes and began to sort and sort and sort....

I took the totes up to their rooms and just started filling them by category (play food, zhu zhu pets, cars, purses, play school stuff, etc.)  Meanwhile, Adam was building the cube organizers in the basement.  Then we added some of the other large toys and tried to keep the toys in "zones" in the basement.

I took pictures of all the totes on the inside and my next project is to create a label with a picture and words for each tote.  That way they can learn to read the labels AND if they forget they can see exactly what goes in each tote!

We were able to reorganize the kids rooms and make them less junky!!  Yeah!!
